I started my day today with a giggle. Trust the British to publish such a wonderful ‘tongue in cheek’ article in their medical journal.
The article, published in 2006, is titled:
Parachute use to prevent death and major trauma related to gravitational challenge: systematic review of randomized controlled trials
Parachutes reduce the risk of injury after gravitational challenge, but their effectiveness has not been proved with randomized controlled trials.
Their conclusion? “Advocates of evidence based medicine have criticized the adoption of interventions evaluated by using only observational data. We think that everyone might benefit if the most radical protagonists of evidence based medicine organized and participated in a double blind, randomized, placebo controlled, crossover trial of the parachute.” Splat!
